Lignin is what gives wood its rigidity. We extract it from forestry by-product — wood that would otherwise be burnt — and spin it into a straw that performs better than paper, is backed by controlled-condition biodegradation testing and avoids plastic.
Why we don't make paper, PLA, or bamboo straws.

Do these straws really hold up all night in cocktails?

Yes. They hold 8+ hours rigid in any cocktail — alcohol, ice, citrus included. We've tested them through full bar shifts (midnight to 8am): no soft middle, no bending, no fibre bleeding into the drink. The lignin we use is the same fibre that keeps trees standing — it doesn't break down on contact with liquid the way paper does.
Are they EU SUP-compliant?

Yes. Plant-based single-use straws made from natural fibre (lignin) are explicitly allowed under EU SUP Directive 2019/904 — unlike single-use plastic, which is banned. Every box ships with documentation: EU 10/2011 food-contact compliance and compostability/biodegradation test references. If a health & safety officer asks, you have the paperwork.
How should venues dispose of them?

Use the organic-waste stream only where your local collection rules accept this material. The straws are documented for controlled-condition compostability/biodegradation testing; do not treat home composting as a universal disposal route.
